The February 8 Engelmayer TRO itself states that, later that evening, the matter was assigned on a permanent basis to Judge Jeannette A. Vargas, and it orders defendants to show cause before Vargas on February 14, 2025, in Courtroom 14C, 500 Pearl Street.
Vargas’s later written order in the same case (SDNY / RECAP copy used for this file) recounts the Part I February 8 TRO (ECF 6), the government’s February 9 emergency motion to dissolve, clarify, or modify, and the TRO’s restriction on political appointees and special government employees. Epoch Times reported that on February 21, 2025, Vargas granted a preliminary injunction and that she had previously stated Senate-confirmed senior Treasury officers were not prohibited from accessing the payment systems.
Those later pages are Vargas’s. This site does not treat her preliminary injunction as an Engelmayer opinion. If a headline says “the judge” without a name after February 8, check the signature block.
